The Foundation plays a key role in MTN's commitment to bringing about meaningful and measurable change in disadvantaged and rural communities across South Africa.
Using technology to drive social development, particularly through education, is core to the Foundation's efforts.
In 2015, over R75m was invested in ICT in education, enterprise development, health and other projects, including building and equipping customised ICT centres at two special needs schools for over 300 learners. Formalised as a non-profit entity in 2001, the Foundation partners with communities, civil society, government and other NGOs.
Education
Education is one of the MTN SA Foundation's four main portfolios. We focus on improving information and communication technology (ICT), connectivity in rural schools, building educator capacity in maths, science and languages, supporting existing science centres, building tele-teaching aids and skills amongst educators and learners and making infrastructure improvements in schools.
