Reflections on the African Spelling Bee 2016
The African Spelling Bee Consortium has partnered with Monash South Africa (MSA) to organise and host the first African Spelling Bee Championship in Johannesburg.
A total of 45 delegates from across Africa arrived in Johannesburg for the occasion, which will be held on 16 July
Woah!I cant believe I am here.I am a young,13 year old girl from Soweto,South Africa.I have always been fascinated by the world of poetry but I never knew that I would become a teenage author.I grew up in a home where books were embraced.To me books were a place where I could have awesome adventures while sitting in my bedroom.I thank all my teachers who nurtured my talent especially Mrs .M.Glade and Mrs.C.Mclean and wonderful principal Mr.R.Peters.I would also thank my mom,Mary Beyile and family for all the support.
This is really exciting for me but Im mostly nervous. Im awful competitive so i might have a heart attack if i dont take the trophy home but i know im going to make it. Like my granny always says
"If you believe, you receive. If you doubt, you go without" ,
so Im trying hard to believe right now.
Wow!The first ever African Spelling Bee and I am a participant!ME!...its an experience I will never forget...we are so taken care of its lovely in South Africa and yes....it is my first time here so I have to be grateful to them for making my first time in South Africa an unforgettable one.The bus ride was long and tiring but I guess I survived.I have met new people and I have a mentor,GHAMI She is very nice and really pretty and so is Robin.I like them a lot and I cant wait for the bee on Saturday
My cool experience in jhb 2016 .it is really nice to come to south Africa and a privilege to to participate in the spelling bee africa competitions.
Taking part in the first ever African spelling bee is the greatest opportunity that I've ever landed. South Africa is such an amazing country and I've loved every minute I was here, except the cold weather!
Being here has really enriched my vision and has motivated me to follow my dreams. I hope to have a phenomenal story to tell in the future. Because of my experience here, I have no doubt that I will get there.
