Craig's work with Monash South Africa began in 2001 when he offered to introduce executives to various community members and organisations to begin collaborative partnerships. Twelve years later, through his work and that of many dedicated students passing through his doors, Monash has earned a reputation as a socially aware and actively engaged university.

Craig represents Monash on the board of the South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum (SAHECEF), was elected Coordinator of the Management and Governance Forum for SAHECEF, and is engaged in the National Research Foundation's three-year community-university partnerships project. He represents SAHECEF on the board of the Department of Social Development (DSD) where, as part of the task team for the professionalisation of community development, he was invited to present at the 2011 DSD inaugural summit.
